How Does Botox® Work?

How Does Botox® Work?

It’s true when they say that getting older isn’t for the faint of heart – especially when it comes to how you look. The aging process often involves decreased skin elasticity, fine lines and wrinkles, and other changes.

Some people are okay with looking older, while others want a way to reduce wrinkles and fine lines. At Carolina Vein Institute, our team offers Botox® injections to eliminate certain signs of aging for a refreshed, youthful glow.

Our two specialists, Dr. Luan Tran and Dr. Rousu An, offer a range of services to help you look and feel your best, including facial rejuvenation, spider vein treatments, and aesthetic injections.

Botox facts

Botox is a purified form of a potent neurotoxin that comes from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Specialists extract the neurotoxin in a lab and purify it to make it safe for human use.

The neurotoxin works in small doses to temporarily paralyze muscles and prohibit nerve signals from reaching them. It allows the muscles to relax, eliminating certain signs of aging, such as fine lines and dynamic wrinkles.

Botox works best on dynamic wrinkles, which are those that appear after repetitive movements like smiling or frowning. They are common around the eyes, in between the brows, and on the forehead.

It also helps with fine lines, effectively giving you a more youthful appearance after just one appointment.

How Botox reduces wrinkles

Botox is a potent neurotoxin that works by paralyzing the muscles for several months to reduce wrinkles – but how does this happen?

The purified form of the neurotoxin essentially blocks nerve signals from reaching the affected muscles. Those nerve signals are what tell the muscles to contract, leading to fine lines and dynamic wrinkles.

Without the nerves telling them to move, the affected muscles become paralyzed for a period. Depending on many factors, including the treated areas and how your body metabolizes the neurotoxin, you can achieve stunning results for up to six months with a single treatment.

Is Botox right for me?

We offer Botox because it’s a great option for people who want a younger appearance without undergoing cosmetic surgery. However, it’s not for everyone.

You may be a good candidate for Botox if you’re showing early signs of aging, such as mild-to-moderate fine lines and wrinkles. It works best on dynamic wrinkles, not on static wrinkles, which remain visible even without facial movement.

We also use Botox to prevent some wrinkles from deepening over time. It’s also necessary to be in good health before undergoing Botox injections.

You should consider Botox if you want a minimally invasive option that gives you a refreshed, youthful glow without surgery. We also tailor each treatment to your specific goals and needs. It’s an excellent option for quick and long-term results.
